But doctors and experts do not know the exact cause why these happens. However, research reveals that there are several factors that can increase your risk of developing breast cancer. \u00a0Although having a risk factor does not necessarily mean that you will have the disease. With this, you may also have breast cancer even though you do not have a single risk factor.<\/p>\n<p>There are two type of risk factors, the ones that you have no control over and the ones that you can control.<\/p>\n<p>The risk factors that you cannot control can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Age \u2013 being over 55 can increase your risk for breast cancer<\/li>\n<li>Family history and genetics \u2013 if you have an immediate family member that had or have been diagnosed with breast cancer, you have a higher risk of developing the same disease<\/li>\n<li>Dense breast \u2013 having dense breast means you have more connective tissues than fatty tissues in your breast<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to radiation \u2013 if you have undergone radiation therapy in the past, especially in your upper extremities, the head, neck and chest, you have a very high chance of developing breast cancer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Risk factors that you have control over can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alcohol use \u2013 according to research, drinking alcohol can increase your risk of developing certain types of breast cancer<\/li>\n<li>Smoking \u2013 smoking have been linked to many types of cancer, these also includes breast cancer<\/li>\n<li>Obesity \u2013 being obese can increase your risk of having breast cancer<\/li>\n<li>Hormone therapy treatment \u2013 if you are one of those people who use hormone therapy treatment, you will have an increased risk for breast cancer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have these factors and you are at risk of developing breast cancer, talk to your medical provider about ways on how you can reduce these risks, and the available screening for breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong><b>Doral Health and Wellness \u2013 Women\u2019s Health Center<\/b><\/strong>, we have the <strong><b>best GYN doctor<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0in <strong><b>East New York<\/b><\/strong>, and we aim to provide all the help that you will need for your condition.
