Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery to improve vision and eyelid function and/or aesthetics.

Blepharoplasty

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty reshapes the upper and/or lower eyelids by removing or repositioning excess skin, muscle, and fat. Functional upperlid blepharoplasty lifts droopy lids that obstruct vision; cosmetic blepharoplasty focuses on rejuvenation. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

What to expect after Blepharoplasty?

  • Mild pain, swelling, and bruising for 1–2 weeks
  • Cold compresses and head elevation to reduce swelling
  • Temporary dryness, tearing, or light sensitivity
  • Sutures removed in about 5–7 days; most return to work in 7–10 days

Why is it performed?

  • To improve peripheral vision blocked by redundant upperlid skin
  • To relieve eyelid heaviness and irritation
  • To reduce lowerlid bags and improve eyelid contour

Risks and Considerations

  • Bleeding, infection, or delayed wound healing
  • Dry eye symptoms or transient difficulty closing eyes
  • Asymmetry or need for revision (uncommon)

Early detection is important for managing the condition and preventing further complications.
